TFMR Awareness Day, May 4th
TFMR Awareness Day is observed every year on May 4th, and is dedicated to raising awareness about Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR) and supporting families who have faced this deeply personal and heartbreaking decision.
TFMR occurs when a pregnancy is ended due to severe fetal anomalies, maternal health risks, or life-limiting medical diagnoses. For many parents, this decision is made out of profound love, compassion, and the desire to prevent suffering, yet it is often misunderstood or stigmatized.
Why TFMR Awareness Day Matters
TFMR Awareness Day creates space for families to share their stories and honor their babies. This day also helps:
Increase public understanding of TFMR and the complex medical realities behind these decisions.
Reduce stigma and isolation for grieving parents.
Encourage compassionate conversations around pregnancy loss.
Provide education for healthcare providers, loved ones, and communities.
For many families, grief after TFMR can feel invisible because their experiences are not always openly discussed. This day helps validate their loss and acknowledges that every family’s journey deserves empathy.
Dr. Erica Rozmid will be hosting an Instagram Live with the TFMR Support Association to bring awareness and support for those who have experienced or are experiencing TFMR. You can watch it live on Instagram here.
